i have a spitfire and i am not getting any gas flow out of my tank. i pulled the fuel line off and nothing comes out even if i shake the sled. is it plugged up or is this a normal function of the valve?

it sounds like it is plugged up, the purpose of the check valve in the tank is to let fuel out, but not let it drain back into tank.

well i got that problem fixed, now i get gas flow through my fuel filter, but it doesnt want to idle and it is really bogging out until i keep it pinned for a few moments, then the powerband kicks in like a raped ape and then just shuts off. i took my fuel pump apart and there were no tears or anything of that nature. i rode it last week for about 10 hours and it ran like a champ, then i let it sit for a few days and its acting up.

sounds like you got dirt in your carb, i would completely take it apart and soak it and blow it out with compressed air, and make sure it is spotless.

I am encountering the same gas tank problem, how and what did you clean your tank with and what did you find! Any info would help greatly! Thanks in advance!

alright to take it apart, i pulled out the bushing with the silver valve in it where the fuel line connects to. I found a long tube connected to this with a metal mesh end, i didnt see anything obstructing flow so i thought i would just blow it out for the hell of it, and i put it back together and there still was no flow out of the tank. so i think it could of been a waste of time but i only had a gallon or so of gas in it, by the way that bushing is a pain to get back in. At that time it was about -5 degrees and i didnt really feel like investigating any further. but later on i determined i had no spark to one cylinder because my plug cap was bad. also you may want to check into your fuel pump if you are getting no flow. i had to put a new one on too this year. i know they dont suggest putting a in-line fuel filter in, but i put a clear Fram one on there from fleet farm just to see if i have gas flow or not.

and the reason mine had no bottom end and wouldnt idle before was because my pilot jet was plugged. if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
