I got a '79 Trailfire 440 that I am fixing up. The air cleaner was full of mouse nest right up to the throttle slide. I got everything pulled apart, cleaned up and back together. With new gas in the freshly cleaned tank it started on the fourth pull. The problem now is that it smokes like crazy. It is running way too rich. I don't have a tech manual for it. Does anyone have the right settings to adjust the mixture or could it be something inside the carb that is still not quite right. ???The needle jet was a bit corroded from the mouse piss so I was wondering if it is maybe not seating around the jet needle properly. I welcome all suggestions

I would get a kit and rebuild the carb. Another thing you could try before rebuilding it is to make sure you have the air screw set right, i believe the correct setting is 2 turns out. also what oil mixture you running?

Sorry it took so long to get back on the boards. I took the carb apart again and cleaned everything out once more and now she runs fine. This is one sweet sled.
(50-1 mixture)
